GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL FUNDING OF €335K FOR THE MARITIME MUSUEM:
Local Councillor, Cormac Devlin welcomed the announcement by the Government that an additional grant of €350,000 was awarded for the on-going restoration works at the Maritime Museum, Haigh Terrace, Dún Laoghaire. The Government previously gave a grant totaling €3,400,000 which enabled the Board of the Museum begin the refurbishment of the old Church. It is hoped that the new and improved Museum will be open to the public by May 2010. It will hopefully return to acting as a magnet for tourists visiting Dún Laoghaire Town and add to the fine list of other wonderful tourist attractions in our coast town (Joyce's Tower/Museum, Killiney/Dalkey Hill, Deansgrange Cemetery, to name but a few).
DEVLIN PROPOSES DÚN LAOGHAIRE LANE-WAY SCHEME:
Councillor Devlin at an Area Committee meeting proposed that the lane-ways (that run parallel to Georges Street) are re-surfaced, re-designed, lit and turned into proper pedestrian walkways. "These lanes at present are nothing but locations for anti-social behavior, now with this proposal, once up-graded we can encourage shoppers and visitors alike to use these laneways. The proposal is due to go out to public consultation in the next few weeks.
