DEVLIN CRITICAL OF REMOVAL OF TREES AROUND FORMER GOLF CLUB LANDS

Local Councillor Cormac Devlin has criticised the developers of the former Golf Club lands and the Council's area planners for not retaining more trees on the lands. In early March, tree surgeons moved in to cut down hundreds of mature trees that surrounded the perimeter of the former Golf Club lands causing annoyance and up-set to surrounding local residents. Cllr. Devlin stated that he is "not only concerned about the lack of protection afforded to the mature trees however I am also particularly concerned for the wildlife (foxes, squirrels and birds) who now have no where to go and a plan must be put in place to rescue these animals." STATEMENT BY COUNCIL IN RELATION TO DALKEY QUARRY

The Council wishes to clarify recent reports in the media relating to ‘alleged vandalism’ by the Council in Dalkey Quarry on Friday the 7th of May. During routine maintenance at the Quarry, Council staff become aware of a small rock outcrop which was considered to be in imminent danger of collapse. Immediate action was taken in the interest of public safety. Earlier today, senior Council staff met on-site with local climbing groups and Mountaineering Ireland to address their concerns and explain the Council’s actions. A constructive dialogue took place and it was accepted that no deliberate interference with routes used by climbers had been intended. The Council recognises that Dalkey Quarry is one of the foremost sites in the country for rock climbing and can confirm that a management plan for Killiney Hill Park, which includes Dalkey Quarry, is currently being considered. The input of local groups and organisations such as Mountaineering Ireland will be a key part of the process.

DEVLIN DEMANDS COUNCIL REMOVES LARGE BLUE SIGN
ON VICO ROAD

Following representation from Dalkey Tidy Towns and representatives from the Dalkey Community Council, local Councillor Cormac Devlin has requested the Council to remove the large and intrusive blue warning sign along the Vico Road, Dalkey as it injures the beautiful views of the Bay. The Councils responce was "The blue signs were erected at a number of locations along the coast to compliment the beach code of conduct programme. It was considered to place one information sign at each of the beaches instead of numerous smaller signs around the entrance. it was deemed that the larger sign would not adversely affect the view, while a large number of smaller signs at a lower level would have a larger impact on the views from Vico road."

This response is completely inadequate and Cllr. Devlin is actively working with local groups to have this removed ASAP.
