DEVLIN CONDEMNS FINE GAEL & LABOUR COUNCILLORS FOR VOTING
TO CLOSE SALLYNOGGIN LIBRARY:

Despite claims by FG/LAB Councillors that it was only "rumour", they voted to close Sallynoggin Library. Councillor Devlin mounted a large campaign against the closure of Sallynoggin Library however he was out voted during the 2010 Council Budget. To find out more click here

DEVLIN SUPPORTS IMPROVED SHOPPING EXPERIENCE IN DÚN LAOGHAIRE TOWN

Dún Laoghaire Councillor, Cormac Devlin spoke in-favor of the proposal by Dunnes Stores to create a new and improved retail unit on Georges Street, Dún Laoghaire."Having corresponded with several local residents and the Business Association on this issue, I am confident that there is wide spread support for this re-development. However I urge planners to re-examine the provisions made for parking for this expanded development and to re-examine the proposed signage because I feel it should further enhance the streetscape and add to the character of the building. I also urge Dunnes Stores (if granted permission) to start immediately on this proposal as the 4/5 derelict units adjacent to the existing store must be removed from our main street" concluded Devlin.
DEVLIN WELCOMES EU AID OF €330m TO HAITI

Councillor Cormac Devlin has welcomed the announcement by the European Union to allocate €330 million to Haiti in the wake of the earthquake. At a meeting in Brussels the EU Foreign Ministers (including Ireland's Peter Power) pledged immediate humanitarian aid to Haiti of €30 million, to be followed up by €100 million for restoration of government capabilities. DEVLIN WELCOMES NEWS OF ICE RINK & ACTIVITY CENTRE FOR DÚN LAOGHAIRE TOWN

Councillor Cormac Devlin has welcomed the news that the Dún Laoghaire Harbour Company is seeking tenders for the provision of an ice-rink, roller-skating rink, a children’s playground or outdoor adventure area in the harbour area.at the Harbour for winter 2010. Cllr. Devlin stated "a facility of this nature will give the Town a great boost financially in the run up to Christmas. It will also provide great entertainment for the young people and schools in the area. "Having criticised the Council in the past for cancelling their plans for a similar ice-rink, I warmly welcome the news of an activity centre of this nature for the centre of the Town," concluded Cllr. Devlin.

DEVLIN WELCOMES COMPLETION OF PEARSE STREET SALLYNOGGIN RE-DEVELOPMENT:

Councillor Cormac Devlin has welcomed the completion of Phase III of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council’s latest social housing scheme along Pearse Street, Sallynoggin. Yesterday Cllr. Devlin visited the social housing scheme along with the Council's Architecht Andrée Dargan prior to the keys being handed over to the new residents.

DEVLIN CRITICAL OF REMOVAL OF TREES AROUND FORMER GOLF CLUB LANDS

Local Councillor Cormac Devlin has criticised the developers of the former Golf Club lands and the Council's area planners for not retaining more trees on the lands. In early March, tree surgeons moved in to cut down hundreds of mature trees that surrounded the perimeter of the former Golf Club lands causing annoyance and up-set to surrounding local residents. Cllr. Devlin stated that he is "not only concerned about the lack of protection afforded to the mature trees however I am also particularly concerned for the wildlife (foxes, squirrels and birds) who now have no where to go and a plan must be put in place to rescue these animals." COUNCIL LAUNCHES PLAN TO UPGRADE & IMPROVE TO "THE METALS"

Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council has launched a public consultation programme for potential improvements to "The Metals" as part of the Governments Sustainable Travel Policy “SmarterTravel” initiative. The Smarter Travel Project Fund set up by the Department of Transport is designed to allocate €3 million annually to initiatives that will increase the use of various public transport nodes. Locally "The Metals" walkway provides a link between Dún Laoghaire and Dalkey with 10 junctions at various roads along its length (approximately 3.5km). DEVLIN LAUNCHES "NEW BATTLE TO LAND €55m VOLVO OCEAN RACE" FOR DUBLIN

Councillor Devlin tabled a motion calling on Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to "make immediate arrangements to apply for Dún Laoghaire to be selected a stopover port for the 2012-2013
Volvo Ocean Race and that discussions begin with all relevant stakeholders (Dún Laoghaire Harbour Company, Dublin City Council, Fáílte Ireland and local Business Groups).” For more info click here

GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES NEW NATIONAL SOLIDARITY BOND

The Minister for Finance, Mr. Brian Lenihan TD, announced details of the National Solidarity Bond. “This bond is an innovative product from which everyone can benefit. Investors can play their part in supporting the economy through this bond which will help to fund the capital investment programme and develop important and necessary infrastructure, which in turn will help to create the conditions for the creation of additional employment. In return, the Irish Government, acting through the National Treasury Management Agency (NTMA), will provide a return on investment of 50% gross over ten years. After tax the net return will still be a very rewarding 47.5%.The National Solidarity Bond is directly invested with the Irish Government for 10 years under the management of the National Treasury Management Agency and there are no fees, charges or sales commission attached to the bond. While the minimum investment amount is €500 there is also a provision for regular savings of €25 which will be automatically invested in the Bond when your savings accumulate to €500. Investors can have their money back at any time without penalty. The longer you leave your money invested the greater the return": For more information please click here

COUNCIL PROCEEDS WITH GEORGES STREET IMPROVEMENT PLANS

Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council has completed the public consultation stage of the plan for installing a new set of pedestrian crossing for Dún Laoghaire Town and making several junction improvements along the main street. DEVLIN WELCOMES "COUNCIL FREE CHRISTMAS PARKING INITIATIVE"
