Cormac Devlin (FF) County Councillor for Dún Laoghaire has welcomed the funding by Minister for Children Barry Andrews TD of €1.5 million for the establishment or capital funding of Youth Cafes. "This funding is extremely important to young people and is a direct response to the call by young people for more Youth Cafés across Ireland. In Dún Laoghaire, Comhairle Na Nóg and other youth groups have been calling for more funding so I have no doubt that they will welcome this news" said Cllr. Devlin.
Minister for Children, Barry Andrews launched two new information booklets on Youth Cafés entitled; "Youth Café's in Ireland; A Best Practice Guide" and "Youth Café Toolkit; How To Set Up & Run A Youth Café in Ireland" and these can be for downloaded from www.pobail.ie
Speaking at the launch, Minister Andrews said "I am delighted to announce this scheme and publish these practical guides, which will help young people and local communities in setting up and running youth cafés throughout the country".
"This fund will be distributed through the County Development Boards and the deadline for all applications is Friday 11th June, 2010.
