Speaking in the Dalkey Town Hall, local Councillor Cormac Devlin informed the assembled residents that the current application (click here) made by Providence Resource (5th January) for a Foreshore Licence off the coast, at the Kish Basin is "too short a timeframe for residents to make proper submissions on this proposal" therefore he has called for a Public Inquiry (Section 3 (ix) Foreshore  Act 1933).

Cllr. Devlin has requested Government Ministers, TD's and other Fine Gael / Labour public representatives need to impress upon Minister Phil Hogan TD to implement a Public Inquiry so that everyone (including residents, residents associations, business groups, environmental groups, etc.) have an opportunity to make their feelings known about this proposal.

Cllr. Devlin also outlined that while this is only the first stage of the process before any drilling/extraction (if any) can take place 3-4 further licences would have to be sought however this is the beginning of the process therefore it is cucial that residents have their say at this stage.

The deadline for this application is 2nd February and submissions should be sent to;

Foreshore Unit
Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government
Newtown Road
Wexford
Email submissions to; foreshore@environ.ie; minister@environ.ie; cormacdevlin@ireland.com
