Having received requests from various local residents, Cllr Devlin requested more litter bins in the following area's:

1) Aong the pathway in the newly revamped Woodpark, Sallynoggin because its proximity to the local commercial centre has seen a considerable build up of rubbish and broken glass?”

2) On each footpath along the Sallyglen Road as there is a considerable amount of rubbish collecting along this route?

The Council reply was as follows;

Due to the limited resources available for emptying litter bins, the provision of any new bin on a regular service schedule, may necessitate some existing bins having to have their emptying frequency reduced. For this reason any additional bin will only be considered in the context of available resources for servicing them. When  considering a request for the provision of a litter bin, the area is prioritised by the quantity of litter generators (shops, takeaways etc.) and the quantity of existing bins present.

WOODPARK - Following on from an inspection of the site, as there are a number of bins in the general area, it is not intended to place an additional litter bin at Woodpark, Sallynoggin. However the request will be stored on a litter bin database and will be considered if there are any changes to the resources in the future that may allow for an increase in the quantity of bins to be serviced.

The open space at Woodpark, Sallynoggin (adjacent to commercial centre) is included in the landscape maintenance contract managed by the Parks Department. The contractor has been asked to increase frequency of visits to help alleviate problems with litter at this location.

SALLYGLEN ROAD - Following on from an inspection of the site, as there are limited litter generators adjacent to the requested location and as a bin was installed adjacent to the park on Sallyglen Road approximately 1 year ago, it is not intended to place additional litter bins along Sallyglen Road

However the request will be stored on a litter bin database and will be considered if there are any changes to the resources in the future that may allow for an increase in the quantity of bins to be serviced.
