Councillor Devlin has raised the issue of road safety at the location of the 4-way junction at the Killiney Hill Road/Military Road crossroads. Several people expressed concern to Cormac about the poor signage on the approach to this junction. As a result, Cllr. Devlin raised this issue on their behalf;
Question: Councillor Cormac Devlin
To ask the Manager to immediately conduct a safety review on the newly installed 4-way stop at the junction of Killiney Hill Road/Military Road. Local residents report that motorists are not heeding the stop signs thus nearly causing serious accidents. The Council should improve the quality of warning signs on all approach roads and/or implement an improved junction configuration for the safety of all road users?
Council Reply:
DLRCC Traffic Section has been monitoring this junction since its installation. There are clear advance warning signs, both temporary and permanent, on the approach to the junction, and the ramps were constructed to achieve a reduction in speed to allow for adequate breaking distance for the Stop lines. The Traffic Section has been consulting with the Gardaí who also have been monitoring the junction. The Gardaí have confirmed that they have no issues regarding the current operation of the junction, as it appears to be achieving a reduction in vehicle speeds.
DLRCC will continue to monitor driver behaviour here and have included this on the agenda for discussion with the Garda Traffic Section at the next Traffic Advisory Group meeting.
