PEDESTRIAN CROSSING
ON MOUNTTOWN ROUNDABOUT
November 2005
Councillor Cormac Devlin raised once again his concerns about the location or lack of pedestrian crossings on the busy Mounttown Roundabout. He claims that the Council officials should consider the issue of predestrian crossing extremely carefully because if it is not right after installing the crossing this time, it could be years before it is put right again. Councillor Devlin tabled the following motion:
The following Motion was proposed by Councillor Cormac Devlin:
That the Manager outline where the much needed pedestrian crossings are on the following road in the new Dún Laoghaire – Foxrock Bus Priority Lane Project:
(i)Oliver Plunkett Road
(ii)Mounttown Road Lower
(iii)Highthorn Park
(iv)Kill Avenue
It was my understanding these were to be included at the entrance to the above roads leading onto the Mounttown roundabout, similar to that on Glenageary Road Upper.
The following report of the Manager was considered:
The proposed signalised pedestrian crossings in addition to the main junctions on the Foxrock to the Dun Laoghaire Quality Bus Corridor are at the following locations: -
i)Oliver Plunkett Road, 20 metres from the existing yield marks at Mounttown Roundabout, adjacent to the pedestrian entrance to the new apartment block.
ii)Mounttown Road Lower, the house adjacent to ‘McCormacks Pub’, at the old timber pole.
iii)Highthorn Park, no signalised pedestrian crossing is proposed for this location.
iv)Kill Avenue, adjacent to Rose Park, about 15 metres from the entrance to the ‘Dun Laoghaire Institute for Art, Design and Technology’ (D.L.I.A.D.T.).
Please note that there is also an existing signalised pedestrian crossing on Kill Avenue at the junction of Ardmore Park.
Following discussions where Mr. Tony Pollins, Senior Engineer, Traffic Section answered Members queries the report was agreed.
