CLARIFICATION SOUGHT ON
PROPOSED SAFETY FEATURES
ON MOUNTTOWN ROUNDABOUT

March 2006

Local Fianna Fáil County Councillor, Cormac Devlin took the oportunity to ask the Manager a question in relation to the Mounttown Roundabout:

To ask the Manager to clarify in relation to Mounttown Roundabout:
(i)will the roundabout itself be re-designed under the D.T.O. funded improvement scheme for            the Bus Priority Lane in the area;
(ii)are improvements for Mounttown Road Lower and throughout Monkstown Farm still part of            these improvement works and when will they be carried out;
(iii)what safe pedestrian crossing improvements/changes will be made for commuters                       disembarking the 46A in Monkstown Farm (coming from City Centre) crossing                             Mounttown Road Lower at the mouth of the roundabout;
(iv)will the existing pedestrian lights on Kill Avenue stay in place despite plans by this                      Council to install another set approximately 15 metres from the entrance to the Dún                     Laoghaire Institute for Art, Design and Technology (D.L.I.A.D.T.)?

Reply:
(i)“A review of the new Mounttown Roundabout Design has recently been carried out by DBFL Consulting Engineers, as requested by the DTO.  Their report is currently being examined.
(ii)Improvements to Mounttown Road Lower and Monkstown Farm are still part of the QBC/Cycle Track Scheme.  The scheme will progress to the ‘Tender and Construction Stages’ once ‘Approval for funding’ has been given by the DTO.
(iii)A ‘Traffic Light Junction’ is now being considered which will cater for safe pedestrian movements.  Signalised Pedestrian Crossings are being considered on all arms of this junction.
(iv)The existing pedestrian lights on Kill Avenue will remain in place.
