COUNCIL ADOPTS
LITTER MANAGEMENT PLAN
2005 - 2008

While all political parties agreed on the contents of the County Council's new Litter Management Plan, it was Fianna Fáil that had 5 out of the 6 additions to the Plan. The Fianna Fáil motions were as follows:
Following discussion, during which Mr. J. Guckian, Senior Executive Officer, Environmental Services Department responded to Members queries, the following motions were read:
Motion 1 It was proposed by Councillor Barry Conway and seconded by Councillor Cormac Devlin:
That the draft Litter Management Plan 2005 to 2008 be amended by the inclusion of the following statement:
It is the Council’s intention to adopt a regular and schematic programme for
(a) the emptying of Council bins and
(b) the replacement of old and dilapidated Council bins.
Motion 2 It was proposed by Councillor Barry Conway and seconded by Councillor Cormac Devlin:
That this Council amends the draft Litter Management Plan 2005 to 2008 by the inclusion of a statement therein as follows:
It is the intention of the Council to require (save in exceptional circumstances) that in all planning permissions in respect of bus shelters in the County a condition be stipulated to the effect that a bin of satisfactory quality and appearance be provided and maintained by the transport provider.
Motion 3* It was proposed by Councillor Cormac Devlin and seconded by Councillor Barry Conway:
That this Council increases the number of days that the road sweeping service operates.
Motion 4 It was proposed by Councillor Cormac Devlin and seconded by Councillor Barry Conway:
That the campaign for the pooper scooper be run once again and that this Council look to increase the methods of distribution of same.
Motion 5 It was proposed by Councillor Cormac Devlin and seconded by Councillor Barry Conway:
That this Council install Fido Bins along the metals in Dún Laoghaire and within the County.
It was stated by Mr. Eamon O’Hare, Acting County Manager that all motions could be integrated into the relevant Action Plans following on from the Litter Management Plan 2005 – 2008 with the exception of Motion 3* for which no additional resources were provided for in the Budget.
