CONTINUED CONCERNS ABOUT
GLENAGEARY ROUNDABOUT

Local Councillor Cormac Devlin raised several on-going concerns he has in relation to the Glenageary Roundabout. At a recent meeting of the Area Committee Councillor Devlin highlighted the following issues:
Question:
To ask the Manager to examine the following issues relating to the Glenageary Roundabout:
a)
The danger caused due to the traffic lights being so close to each exit thus causing cars to stop practically on the roundabout in particular to the lights on the Sallynoggin Road and Glenageary Road Upper?
b)To widen the two lanes (between Spar and Dunmore House) that lead onto the roundabout from Dalkey direction as these two lanes are not wide enough to allow two cars to pass each other at the bend and this needs to be examined in light of traffic flow?
c)Are there any plans to plant shrubs on the grass verges adjacent to the cycle path outside Spar as these have never been properly maintained since the road was built?
d)Would the Council consider road markings on this Roundabout?
Reply:
a)The pedestrian crossings are located at the optimum distance from the roundabout i.e. 20 metres. Any further away and pedestrians/cyclists would not divert to use them – any nearer and congestion on the roundabout would result.
b)Road space is limited at this location, there is currently 4 metres on the approach to the roundabout divided into 2 lanes and 4.5 metres on the exit side which includes a traffic lane and on-road cycletrack. There is little scope to alter lane widths without extensive civil work.
c)This issue will be referred to the Parks Department for their attention.
d)There are no plans to provide road markings on the roundabout. Design guidelines issued by the Department of Environment, Heritage & Local Government do not specify any lane markings on the circulating carriageways of roundabouts.
