DEVLIN CALLS FOR
LOCAL AREA PLAN (L.A.P.) FOR
GLASTHULE & SANDYCOVE AREA
Novmber 2006
Due to the impending development possibilities in the Glasthule/Sandycove area, local Councillor, Cormac Devlin requested the Council to prepare a Local Area Plan for the area. This would help create a blueprint for acceptable future developments in theses villages.
The following motion was proposed by Councillor Cormac Devlin:
That the Manager initiates Local Area Plans (LAP) for the villages of Glasthule and Sandycove as soon as possible.
The following report of the Manager was noted:
There are no proposals for Local Area Plans for Glasthule and Sandycove in the current County Development Plan 2004 – 2010. The limited staff resources available to the Planning Department for assignment to this area of work activity are fully accounted for in the preparation of the Local Area Plans referred to in Section 3.2 of the County Development Plan
The current Development plan 2004 – 2010 refers the making of seven Local Area Plans throughout the county. The position relation to these Plans is as follows: -
Woodbrook – For adoption at November Council Meeting
Kiltiernan – Proposed Draft LAP listed as headed item for consideration by members at November meeting;
Stillorgan – Pre draft Development Options Consultation document has been on public display. Draft Plan being prepared for submission to the elected representatives early 2007;
Cherrywood – Work is proceeding on the text of the Draft Local Area Plan. The Mouchel Parkman LUTS study is also nearing completion. This will inform the Draft LAP, which it is envisaged will be presented to the Area Committee in the Spring of 2007;
It is intended to have substantial progress on the above four Local Area Plans before undertaking others. The others will include Glencullen, Old Connaught and Deansgrange as identified in the County Development Plan 2004-2010.”
A discussion followed during which a number of Members supported the case for preparation of a Local Area Plan for the Villages of Glasthule and Sandycove. Mr. McCulloch advised the members that the preparation of Local Area Plans for Glasthule and Sandycove could be considered in the context of the next Development Plan. Mr. Bob Lee, Senior Executive Planner replied to Members queries in relation to applications for Planning Permission for buildings within the area and advised that the Planning Department recognized the quality and character of the area concerned.
