TRAFFIC FLOW CONCERNS
FOR THE CENTRE OF
DÚN LAOGHAIRE
October 2004
Since the new design and re-routing of traffic along Dún Laoghaire main street local residents have seen traffic flow massivly increase on their roads. Local Councillor Cormac Devlin is extremly concerned about the safety of pedestrians thus placed the following motions down at an Area Committee Meeting to highlight the issue:
1) Request for new traffic management plan for Dun Laoghaire:
The following Motion was proposed by Councillor Cormac Devlin:
That the Manager draw up a new traffic management plan for the town centre of Dun Laoghaire as motorists are currently going up Patrick’s Street, Cross Avenue and Library Road in order to get to the other side of Dun Laoghaire. Residents are naturally concerned about possible fatalities coming from the massive increase in traffic in the residential area.
The following report of the Manager was noted:-
SIAS Transportation Planners have been commissioned to undertake The Dun Laoghaire and Environs Traffic Management Plan.
In accordance with a detailed Brief, SIAS Transportation Planners will examine all aspects of traffic management including those raised by the various Councillors through each of the questions put forward for reply at the Dun Laoghaire Area Committee for the 4th October 2004.
The period for completion of this study is 6 months and should it so be requested the Brief is available for inspection at the Transportation Department.
2) Re-examine the traffic direction/flow from George’s Street to Crofton Road:
The following Motion was proposed by Councillor Cormac Devlin:
That the Manager re-examine the traffic direction / flow of traffic going from George’s Street Lower to Crofton Road as many motorists are currently cutting through, Bently Villas and George’s Place and also Charlement Avenue giving rise to safety concerns for children in the area.
