TEEN COUNSELLING CENTRE
IN DÚN LAOGHAIRE
October 2008Local Councillor for Dún Laoghaire, Cormac Devlin (Fianna Fáil) has warmly welcomed the official opening by Minister Mary Hanafin TD of the new Crosscare Teen Counselling Centre in Dún Laoghaire town. The Centre which helps teenagers and their families, free of charge, deal with a wide range of problems including addiction, depression, abuse, bereavement, separation and relationship problems. The centre is #72 York Road, Dún Laoghaire and is open Monday & Tuesday 9:30am – 5pm and can be contacted on (01) 2844852. Crosscare accept referrals from Parents, Schools, GP’s and Social Workers..
Speaking after the opening of the new centre Councillor Devlin stated that he was delighted that Crosscare chose Dún Laoghaire to offer such a vital service for the young people of the area. Councillor Devlin added that “in this modern age where more and more young people face huge challenges both personally, financially (to name but a few), that they have a local centre in-which they can attend, for free and talk to professionally trained counsellors in confidence. This is an extremely beneficial service for both teenagers and their families to have in south county Dublin.”
“The services provided by counselling and support groups, such as Crosscare, are often emotional and practical lifelines for those who may be going through particularly traumatic situations and experiencing a range of problems that combine to often leave them feeling isolated and powerless.” stated Minister Hanafin.
Crosscare Teen Counselling has over 30 years experience working with young people and has 5 centres across Dublin – Clondalkin, Tallaght, Finglas, Drumcondra and now Dún Laoghaire. The Dún Laoghaire centre along with helping teenagers, their parents and families also provides training for counsellors.
Minister Hanafin said “I was delighted to approve grants totalling almost €11 million in June this year to support families through Marriage, Child and Bereavement Counselling Services. These grants benefited 600 voluntary and community groups nationwide which provide a wide range of marriage, child and bereavement counselling services and supports.”
Crosscare have received funding under this Scheme of Grants for Marriage, Child and Bereavement Counselling Services since 1998 and this year the organisation received €170,000 to support its work.
Minister Hanafin went on to say, “I believe that families are central to our society and I am keen to support practical initiatives which help all members of the family to achieve stability in their lives during periods of stress and trauma that they may encounter.”
Both Minister Hanafin & Councillor Devlin congratulated all those associated with Teen Counselling Centre and wished them every success in their future endeavours.
