There was a large attendance at the Information Evening organised by Lidl Ireland in Shanganagh Park House on Monday 24th April from 5-7pm.
Proposals being considered by Lidl were on display for local residents to view and ask questions on. There was surprise expressed by several residents that Lidl plan to demolish the existing and recently refurbished and redesigned shopping centre building and replacing it with a new stand along supermarket.
The proposal is to rebuild a new, 2 story Lidl supermarket closer to the Beechfield Road side of the site which would incorporate the existing O'Donnell Pharmacy. Then in addition to this, they would construct a stand along Medical Centre, Café and a Creche (to the left of the existing entrance into the car park at present). The design of the supermarket is similar to that of the new Lidl in Glenageary with "under-croft" car parking (parking on ground level but under the supermarket while the supermarket is up on the 1st floor). This would therefore increases the number of car parking space on the site.
While no formal plans have been lodged as of yet, it is imminent. I welcome the fact that a potential retail use has been found for this important site and I look forward to seeing the exact plans that Lidl submit to Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. Until then, if you would like to be kept informed of this or any other local issue within the Shankill area, please sign-up to Cormac's e-Bulletin for the area by clicking here.
